About Hillcrest

This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.  Psalm 118:23

Hillcrest CRC’s story

Crowded conditions in Denver’s Christian Reformed churches led to the realization that it was time to organize a new congregation.  In October of 1961, the Hampden Hills Baptist church at 3000 S. Race St. was purchased, and In March of 1962, fifty-nine families and 4 individuals, 363 total, were blessed with a new church home to be called Hillcrest Christian Reformed Church (CRC).  The first worship service was held on March 4, 1962. After many years of fruitful ministry, in 1995 a large number of the church left to join in the formation of another CRC in Highland Hills. This resulted in the gradual decline of Hillcrest CRC, until it became barely sustainable.

CCAID’s story

In 2004 several Chinese families, mostly first generation Christian converts were seeking a deeper experience of God and began to fellowship together. On January 3, 2005, they held their first worship service at their leader’s residence.  This was the birth of the Chinese Christian Assembly in Denver (CCAID), with a strong ministry to fellow Chinese immigrants. Subsequently, sensing a need to minister to visiting Chinese students and scholars, they moved in 2009 to a location near the University of Denver.  Their new home became shared usage of the Hillcrest CRC facilities.

The Merger

The Hillcrest CRC soon saw the possibility for both congregations to unite and enhance their ministries.  In 2010, the churches began combined services once a month.  This developed into an effective period of courtship for the two congregations. Each church was able to bring forward its own unique strengths:  CCAID with its productive outreach ministries to the Chinese-speaking residents and students of Denver, and Hillcrest with its strong theological tradition and broad resources in the Christian Reformed Church (CRC).  Then in 2012, the two churches pursued the process of merging into one church under the CRC, and on October 7, 2012, HILLCREST CHRISTIAN CHURCH became the new home for both Hillcrest CRC and the CCAID.

Our Mission

We are a multi-cultural family, brought together by Jesus Christ, that exists to draw broken people into deep, healthy relationships with God and with each other.  Responding to God’s Word, we are called to share the Good News with others, and demonstrate the Good News in our lives and in our church, growing steadily in love and obedience to God.  To accomplish these things, we will:  Teach the Bible faithfully and diligently; Equip people to share the faith and to mature spiritually, with leaders providing the example; Create an atmosphere of grace that draws people together into God’s powerful presence; Develop close relationships with our neighborhood and community through acts of selfless service; Be faithful stewards of money, time and ability, causing the blessings of God’s Kingdom to flow through us locally and globally.
